Combat Armor family holds 6 types of armor, which all base on appearance of Regular Armor. Seems that origin was exploated by every faction in California. I will take a look closer into those armors, their pros and cons.
Combat Armor CA-MkI (craftable)
This is regular armor which player can craft and obtain by relatively easy tasks, like cave hunting, lockers in random city encounters and quest from Gun Runners or Stranded Ship.
Base armor, non-stats, is weakest of whole CA family, however, ability to craft this piece of armor can result in obtaining (if lucky!) powerful protection. Best armor can offer additional 5 DT for each of damaga at a time (or even 2 or 3) and Damage Resist. For example, armor with +5 DT and 10% Resists in same type of damage (best would be normal damage) is as much powerfull as power armor!
Strong point: Craftable
Weakeness: Fire / Electric gaps

- Gun Runners Quest
- Stranded Ship Quest
- Lockers in Random Encounters
- Caves in mountain area
- Ares Rocket Silo (level 1)
- Glow (with stats)
Combat Armor CA Mk II (buyable/lootable)
This is upgraded model of regular Combat Armor. It holds a little higher resist and damage tresholds for every type of damage.
Strong point: byable from NPC traders in GunRunners, Hub, San Francisco, NCR...
Weakness: Fire damage
Obtaining:
- Gun Runners Quest
- NPC traders in San Francisco, New Reno, Gun Runners, Hub, NCR
- Ares Rocket Silo
- Warehouse / New Reno Locker
- Glow
Desert Combat Armor (lootable)
This armor offers best protection against snipers and guys with explosives. It has enhanced resists and tresholds for explosions and, most important reduces crit power and crit chance on user. Best use for it is PVM encounters like Ares or Mutant Cave (GR quest), and it gives maximum protection combined with Man of Steel and Bonehead perks!
Strong point: Explosives and Crit protection
Weakeness: Hard to obtain / Fire damage

- Desert Hunters
- Warehouse / New Reno Locker
- Glow
NCR Ranger Armor (lootable)
This is great artpiece from NCR Army. It offers better DT for normal damage then its predecessors and additional protection vs fire damage. Also, it has quite good looks on male character. Good agains any bursters with normal damage type.
Strong Point: Normal DT
Weakeness: Laser Damage Resist / hard to obtain
Obtaining:
- Warehouse / New Reno Locker
- Glow
- Caves
- Lockers in random encounters
Enclave Armor (lootable)
High class armor created to offer better protection against energy based attacks, such as Laser, Plasma and Electric. Best to use in PVM situations. Very good against mutants with Plasma Rifles and Laser Rifles!

- Caves
- Warehouse / New Reno Locker
Brotherhood Armor (lootable)
Most superior armor from Combat family. Offers best protection in all damage types both in resistances and tresholds. It allows user to absorbs lots of normal damage and to stand agains flamers much longer then any other cover. Best way to obtain this armor is Glow magic locker at 5th floor.
Strong point: Normal DT / Fire protection / Electric protection
Weakeness: Hard to obtain.
